As part of our internationalization strategy, we are looking for young academics or professors on a sabbatical leave from their institutions who are willing to spend one term with us teaching and doing research.

We are searching for enthusiastic academics, including recent PhD graduates (ABD candidates may be considered as long as the degree is awarded before their arrival to UDLAP) to participate in this opportunity.

We invite applicants from world-leading universities to apply, especially those who are looking to expand their teaching experience and are open to explore research opportunities and even consider a full time position afterwards.

Eligible candidates shall be fluent in English (fluency in Spanish is not required, as teaching will be in English) and keen to interact with a different culture while sharing their academic and professional experience and their passion for international experiences. UDLAP will be accepting candidates in the disciplines according to the current demand and course offering in each academic term.

Duties of the Post

  • To join UDLAP for a full 18-week academic term, including final exams (Spring will run from January to May, and Fall will run from August to December), or for a 4 or 5-week term in the summer (May-June). Candidates willing to come to a 10-week master-level term may also be considered (January, April, June, July, and October).
  • To teach 24 Credit Hours per term at undergraduate or graduate level (equivalent to 4 courses) on a regular semester. If applying for a summer term or for a master-level term, up to 12 Credit Hours (equivalent to 2 courses) can be taught during these periods.
  • Each course at UDLAP considers 48 hours of instruction, distributed along the term (semester, trimester, or Summer).
  • A degree of flexibility and combinations of the terms are also possible, as some overlap.
  • To be available to students for academic mentoring, where visiting scholars will be expected to advise students especially on topics such as international exchange, internships, and/or research.
  • To be actively engaged in the academic life of the hosting Academic Department.
  • Priority will be given to those open to engage in joint research projects that may lead to publications.

What we offer

  • An ideal academic opportunity to develop teaching skills in a research-intensive environment, which will prove valuable to applicants in their future search for a permanent position in their home countries or abroad.
  • The possibility of applying for a Full Time position at UDLAP (subject to availability).
  • A total salary of USD $4,000.00 per course taught (please consider a 25% tax retention in Mexico).

How to Apply

To apply for one of the UDLAP Visiting Faculty positions, candidates shall submit the following documentation at least 3 months prior to the beginning of the term to which they are applying:

  • An updated resume (CV) where the year of the latest obtained academic degrees and the corresponding granting institutions are clearly stated. The resume may be delivered in English or Spanish.
  • Scanned copies of the most recent academic degrees and official transcripts where the courses can be consulted. Please note that ABDs may be considered for this opportunity if a date for dissertation has been established and happens before the start of the stay at UDLAP (please provide proof of the established date).
  • Specify all research, consulting, and other relevant professional activities that the Academic Departments should consider in your application.
  • State your academic publications, and if available, provide the web links to them.
  • Include your latest professional appointments, distinctions, awards, or any other information that may be of interest for evaluation of your application. Online references to these achievements are greatly appreciated.

After reception of the documentation, the institution will evaluate the application and determine the candidates’ compatibility with the institutional requirements. UDLAP may request additional information from candidates, and even consider the possibility of requesting a remote conference to discuss their application. Please be aware that the reception of the documentation does not guarantee an acceptance.

Selected candidates will be contacted to begin their administrative and migratory process. Please be aware that for Spring nominations, extra time may be required as Winter break (Christmas) may delay the entire process for two or more weeks.

Please send all questions and applications to ingrid.kirschning@udlap.mx.
